2017 Municipal Elections

Phone Banking: Jackie Traynere for Bolingbrook Mayor

This month, 43rd Ward Committeewoman Lucy Moog and I are teaming up to help Democrats running for office in suburban municipal elections win seats held by Trumpian candidates through phone banks and weekend canvassing.

We are partnering to help Jackie Traynere, who is running for Mayor in Bolingbrook against an incumbent mayor who raised $1.5 MILLION for Donald Trump’s campaign. This is a race Democrats can absolutely win — Hillary Clinton won the city with 60% of the vote in 2016. In order to win, we must get involved and help with GOTV efforts.

Regular phone banks will begin on Monday, March 13 at Marcello’s (645 W. North Ave.), from 4 – 8 pm. To RSVP, please sign up online.

PLEASE NOTE: You must bring a computer and a cell phone, as paper call sheets are unavailable.

Saturday Canvassing: Jackie Traynere for Bolingbrook Mayor

Canvass caravans are heading out to Bolingbrook on Saturdays starting on March 11. We will meet at the Starbucks inside the Wicker Park Jewel-Osco (1341 N. Paulina Ave) at 8:45 am and ride to Jackie’s campaign office in rented vans at 9 am.

To RSVP for canvassing, click here. Please note: if you are planning to leave a car behind, you cannot leave your vehicle in the Jewel parking lot. The Saturday coordinator will have parking passes for vehicles parked behind 2nd Ward Alderman Brian Hopkins’ Office, located at 1400 N. Ashland Ave.

Deputy Registrar Training

In response to a number of requests for information about voter registration activities in Chicago, the 2nd Ward Democrats will be establishing a Voter Registration Committee to organize voter registration events.

To get involved with the Voter Registration Committee, click here.

The 2nd Ward Democrats will sponsor you to become a Deputy Registrar. Deputy Registrars are individuals who can perform voter registration in an official capacity.

Starting in April, the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners will resume Deputy Registrar Trainings. To become a Deputy Registrar, you must be sponsored by a Political Organization registered with the Illinois State Board of Elections. To become sponsored by the 2nd Ward Democrats, send an email to my office, and include your full voting name, voting address, phone number, and email address.

2nd Ward Clean & Green

2nd Ward Alderman Brian Hopkins’ Service Office is organizing a Ward-wide Clean & Green on Saturday, April 22. The program is part of a citywide effort to clean up the city and get ready for spring.

The office is coordinating with volunteers from across the 2nd Ward to identify locations (parkways, play lots, curbs, and schools) that collected junk and debris over the winter. I will be helping Alderman Hopkins with the ward-wide cleanup efforts and, and encourage you to get involved.

One of the additional benefits of these clean-ups is it gives you a chance to meet your neighbors, and help build a stronger community bond. Sign up to get involved with Alderman Brian Hopkins here.

Precinct Infrastructure Surveys

Last year, Alderman Brian Hopkins and I worked with volunteers across the Ward to walk each block and knocked on doors with neighbors to talk about issues that the city can fix. From streets and sidewalks in need of repair, faded or missing street signs, trees in need of trimming, street & alley light outages, more than 1,500 service requests were filed, thanks to the efforts of volunteers.

This year, I will again help Alderman Hopkins by finding individuals willing to walk the streets in their neighborhoods and report back things that the city can fix.

When multiple issues can be reported and repaired by a department in a concentrated area, it becomes more efficient to get a city crew out to address an issue. To get involved, click here to help take ownership of part of or your entire precinct.
